How To Stay Healthy During The Holiday Season

How To Stay Healthy During The Holiday Season

It’s that magical time of year again! Time for family gatherings, delicious food, and cozying up with a hot cup of coffee on chilly mornings. But there’s more than holiday cheer to spread this year. And germs can’t wait to invite themselves over. Here are a few tips to stay healthy this holiday season:

Keep those hands clean

The holiday season is filled with giving, but the flu is one gift you don’t want to wrap up! So keep the flu bug away by washing your hands often.

We know, we know. . .  you’ve heard it more than your kiddo’s favorite (and annoying!) cartoon. But we keep emphasizing this one because it’s that important! Especially with the Flu joining forces with Covid this season.

So stay on top of your little one’s hand washing, keep hand sanitizer close by, and continue to practice all those good hygiene habits you’ve mastered this year!

Dress For the Weather

Temperatures are dropping and that means it’s time to break out the hats, gloves, scarves and boots. Whether it’s getting your kiddo ready for school, playing outside, or loading them in the car for a Starbucks run, keeping your little one warm and dry is a great way to keep them healthy and prevent colds.

Keep The Kitchen Safe AND Fun

Cooking during the holidays can be more hectic than a normal family dinner. With all the chopping, mixing, and baking going on, kiddos running in and out of the kitchen could spell trouble! So while we’re preparing all the delicious food this holiday season, let’s make sure to keep harmful things out of reach. An easy way to do this is by using tools like baby gates to keep the kitchen a no-play zone!

But it doesn’t have to be all work and no fun. This is a great time to recruit your little ones to help and make some lasting holiday memories. Mixing ingredients or shaping cookies is a safe and fun way to involve you little ones in all the festivities!

Skip The Crowds With Online Shopping

It’s no surprise that the holidays are the biggest shopping season of the year. And, well, the flu and COVID-19 won’t change that. But with all these germy bugs going around, limiting our exposure to heavy crowds is a smart move. And online shopping is a great way to do that! Plus you can get your gift wrapped and sent straight to their door. All the holiday cheer with none of the stress. (seriously, you know what it's like to wrap a present with a toddler!)

Loading up on vitamins

Strengthening your immune system is a must during a time like this. With all the family gatherings, sugary treats, and viruses going around, your little one’s immune system is in overdrive. So make sure they’re getting all the nutrients they need to fight off germy invaders.

If you have a Picky Eater at home, here are 4 ways Pediatric Dietitian, Danielle Zold RDN, CLC, recommends to get more nutrition into mealtime. You can also add in a multivitamin that includes all the Immune Building vitamins to support your kiddo’s health this holiday season.
