7 Fall Fruits & Veggies to Boost Immunity

Autumn is a time for falling leaves and apple cinnamon candles. And of course, that signature piping hot Pumpkin Spice Latte.

But it’s also the perfect time for boosting immunity! Because when those leaves start turning their vibrant shades of red and orange, it means flu season is right around the corner. And the best part — yummy immune-boosting fruits and veggies (the one’s kiddos will actually eat) are in season!

So let’s *fall* into all things autumn, fruits, and veggies, and see how these guys can boost our kiddo’s immunity!

1. Apples

Apple picking, apple pie, apple scents — autumn really loves its apples! They’re in season during the fall, and considering they’re rich in fiber and packed with bioflavonoids and antioxidants, an apple a day really can keep the doctor away!

2. Blackberries

Blackberries can be a question mark when it comes to passing The Picky Eater Taste Test. But one of our super-duper mom hacks for getting kids to eat their fruits and veggies is to make a smoothie. And mixing blueberries into our Date and Cream Smoothie sounds like a perfect plan to adding this antioxidant-packed fruit into our kiddos diet.

3. Cranberries

Now cranberries are another question-mark fruit when it comes to Picky Eaters. But there are many ways to add this immune-boosting fruit to your kiddo’s diet. You could add Healthy Cranberry Granola to yogurt, have Cranberry Walnut Toast, or make your own Cranberry Juice!

4. Pomegranates

Pomegranates are chock-full of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals — all the immunity boosters you want to prep for flu season! And with kid-friendly recipes like Pomegranate Limeade Popsicles, Chocolate Pomegranate Clusters, and Oatmeal Pomegranate Muffins, your kiddos may grow to love these cute, little fruits!

5. Pumpkin

What’s more fall than a bright, orange pumpkin! Pumpkin is a great source of Vitamin C, minerals, and zinc — an immune-system powerhouse if you ask us! Use pumpkin in a smoothie, pancakes, or other Kid-Friendly Pumpkin Recipes to add this to your fall meal planning.

6. Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are a favorite during the fall! Packed with Vitamin A, fiber, and Vitamin C, these yummy potatoes will give your kiddos the immunity boost they need. Plus, their fun, orange color is means they’re are high in carotenoids, which can lower the risk of heart disease and cancer! Pop them in the oven, or make a Sweet Potato Casserole for an immune-boosting treat.

7. Butternut Squash

Last on our list of Immune-Boosting Fall Fruits and Veggies is Butternut Squash. It’s high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and is a great starter veggie for picky eaters. Recipes like Honey Roasted Butternut Squash or Sweet and Salty Butternut Squash Fries are too yummy to pass up!
