6 Fun Ways to Celebrate Labor Day

6 Fun Ways to Celebrate Labor Day

Is it us or did the kiddos JUST go back to school and already have a 3-day weekend??

Hmmm, funny how that works out.

Either way, we’re super excited about Labor Day weekend! ‘Cause honestly, it’s hard to enjoy the last few days of summer with back-to-school stress on our minds.

So we were thinking. . . let’s say “Goodbye Summer” this Labor Day Weekend with these fun activities.

Splash at the Waterpark

Before we know it, the days will get shorter and the temperatures colder. So take advantage of the warm weather with a fun splash at the waterpark. Pack healthy grab-n-go snacks, sun protection, and a few beach towels for a perfect way to bookend the summer.

Rather avoid the crowds? (we don’t blame you!) Instead, bring the waterpark to your backyard. Set up a sprinkler, splash pad, or a DIY Slip-n-Slide and soak up the last rays of summer.

Bake an All-American Dessert

Labor Day was created to honor the hard work and contributions of our fellow Americans. And what better way to celebrate those achievements than with a classic Apple Pie!

We love this Easy Apple Pie Recipe for kids. It’s made with a handful of ingredients and so easy even the kiddos can help out. However, a tiny tweak we’d recommend is swapping the sugar with our favorite pal – monk fruit.

Monk Fruit is an all-natural, calorie-free sweetener used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for everything from relieving sore throats to upset tummies.

It’s about 200x sweeter than sugar (so you don’t need much) and has no carbs, calories, or weird aftertaste. And the best part. . . your kiddos won’t even notice the difference!

Join the Labor Day Festivities

A quick Google search will bring up loads of Labor Day Weekend activities in your area. From parades, cookouts, and festivals, there’s bound to be a perfect event for your family.

To make sure everyone has a great time (and minimize the stress), here’s a festival checklist:

  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Extra change of clothes
  • Carrier or Stroller for the little ones

It’s also a good idea to review with your kiddos what to do if they get lost, important phone numbers, and information – just in case!

Take a Road Trip

A road trip is a fun way to explore a nearby town this Labor Day Weekend. You’ll wanna get on the road as early as possible to avoid traffic. And, as a bonus, if your kiddos can nap most of the way, you’ll also avoid unnecessary fussiness from a long trip.

But don’t forget that half the fun is on the road! Have your kiddos help you plan exciting stops along the way and come up with fun car games to keep everyone entertained. You can also listen to new audio stories and movies to make the trip seem shorter.

Create a Labor Day Appreciation Basket

Not everyone gets Labor Day off, but we still believe they deserve a celebration! Have your kiddos create a Labor Day Appreciation Basket for those working this holiday – whether it’s mom, dad, or the grocery store cashier. Fill the basket with goodies such as:

  • Healthy Snacks
  • Homemade Treats
  • Special Thank You Note

Host an Ice Cream Social

We all know that ice cream is summer’s best friend. And since Labor Day is the “unofficial end of summer,” let’s send summer off with their BFF! Invite neighbors, family, and friends to a special Labor Day Ice Cream Social. Here are a few basics to setting up an ice cream bar:

  • Cones
  • Cups
  • Ice Cream Scoop
  • Spoons
  • Napkins
  • Ice cream – multiple flavors

Then there’s the toppings:

  • Sprinkles (a must!)
  • Chocolate Sauce
  • Caramel
  • Chocolate chips
  • Berries
  • Whipped Cream

And don’t forget to take plenty of pics!
